Senior Business Intelligence Developer

The role

We are looking for a Senior BI Developer to lead the evaluation, selection and enablement of modern business-intelligence tooling on enterprise data-platform programmes.

You will own the BI layer of these engagements end to end: running structured, evidence-based tool evaluations (for example Looker versus Qlik), defining the reporting and semantic standards that sit on top of a governed cloud lakehouse, enabling business power users to build their own reports, and establishing the steady-state operating model that keeps reporting trustworthy as it scales.

This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone who is equally comfortable modelling a semantic layer, facilitating a decision workshop with senior stakeholders, and writing the recommendation that a steering committee signs off.

What you'll do

  • Run BI tool evaluations. Design and lead structured comparisons of enterprise BI platforms (e.g. Looker, Qlik, Power BI) on real data and real user scenarios, with power users from several business departments. Assess each tool on speed-to-answer, change-request turnaround, governance fit, respect for sensitive-data controls, existing skills and total cost — and produce a clear, defensible recommendation for decision-makers.
  • Define reporting and pack standards. Establish the semantic-layer and report/"pack" conventions on top of curated and enterprise datasets in a cloud data warehouse, so that reporting reads governed, agreed metric definitions rather than each team rebuilding its own.
  • Enable self-service. Build the enablement kit — starter models, templates, reusable packs, guidelines and training — that lets domain power users answer their own questions without going back to IT for every change.
  • Stand up the operating model. Define the steady-state reporting operating model: roles and responsibilities, the change-request and release flow, report lifecycle (create, certify, retire), and how BI connects to the platform's governance.
  • Protect trust and compliance. Ensure reporting honours governed KPI definitions and enforces data-protection controls (column-level security / policy tags on sensitive data).
  • Partner across the programme. Work closely with data engineers, data product owners, data governance stewards and business stakeholders; translate business questions into governed, performant BI.
  • Support migration from legacy BI. Where reporting is moving off legacy platforms, help walk existing reports with their consumers and run replacements in parallel until users are confident.

What we're looking for

Must-have

  • 5+ years in business intelligence / analytics, including senior or lead-level delivery.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with at least one enterprise BI platform (Looker/LookML, Qlik, Power BI or Tableau) — ideally comparative experience across two or more.
  • Strong SQL and experience working on a cloud data warehouse (BigQuery preferred; Snowflake, Redshift or similar also relevant).
  • Semantic / metrics modelling and a track record of enabling business self-service BI.
  • Awareness of data governance in a BI context: governed KPI definitions, metric ownership, cataloguing, and access / PII controls.
  • Excellent stakeholder management - able to run workshops, align competing views, and produce decision-grade recommendations for senior audiences.
  • Fluent English, written and spoken.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience selecting or migrating BI tooling, especially off legacy platforms (e.g. SAP BusinessObjects, MicroStrategy, Cognos).
  • Familiarity with the modern data stack: dbt, orchestration (e.g. Airflow), and data cataloguing / governance tooling (e.g. Dataplex, Collibra).
  • Google Cloud and/or Looker certifications.
  • Consulting or client-facing delivery background.
  • Exposure to large enterprise or retail data estates.
  • Interest in conversational / AI-assisted analytics on governed data.
  • Additional European languages (e.g. German) a plus.

What we offer

  • High-impact, senior role shaping the BI capability on large enterprise data-platform programmes.
  • A remote-first, flexible working culture with a collaborative, expert team.
  • Work on a modern Google Cloud data stack alongside strong data engineers and architects.
  • Continuous learning, certification support, and room to grow into BI architecture or practice leadership.
